Palladium
Palladium has the chemical symbol Pd, a density of 12 g/cm3 and a melting point of 1550°C. Palladium is one of the metals from the platinum group and one of the lightest of the group. Palladium is also one of the most expensive metals in the industry, classified as a precious metal. The reason why it is so expensive is that the metal itself is very rare (almost as rare as platinum). Palladium cannot be naturally obtained in its pure form, it is usually found in alloys with platinum and some minerals. It is then possible to separate the palladium to be later used for jewelry.
Palladium in jewelry
Palladium is one of the latest trends in the jewelry industry. The palladium used in jewelry consists usually of 950 parts per thousand palladium and 50 parts per thousand ruthenium. The metal is almost half as heavy as platinum and whiter. This is why palladium is perfect for earrings.Palladium benefits
One of the benefits of palladium is that it maintains its natural shine and (unlike white gold) does not need to be treated. This white color is not the result of any surface treatment. As far as the price is concerned, it is comparable to platinum.Tips on how to care for your palladium
Palladium can be cleaned with a soft rag, warm water and a little soap. Palladium is very resistant and can withstand even more polishing than, for example, white gold.
